Current Work
For the past couple of years I have spend some time in Arizona working with a non-profit organization dedicated to saving Premarin (PMU) mares and foals from neglect, abuse, and slaughter. Equine Voices is a sanctuary that also helps to protect horses in southern Arizona. My art has been influenced by these majestic and magical animals.www.equinevoices.org/horses/
Paintings
I am attracted to multiple processes examined through conceptual and physical layering. I work rapidly using spontaneous images sometimes from my iPhone and Instagram filters. This allows unrestricted and instinctive visual results. The realistic depiction of photography is transformed and painting layers the results. It is through these representative moments I expand upon.
My art examines issues centering on the complex relationship between the physical world and our interior lives. Art can be a reflective process discovered through experience. I find my layered roles as a woman, wife, mother, daughter, artist, and teacher constantly shifting. These roles help to perpetuate visions and make expressive connections while redefining aspects of myself. Having been raised by artists and surrounded by photography and other art forms, I developed an appreciation that art can capture and synthesize emotion. Through my art, unconscious emotional connections are built and revealed. The following images show some examples of the process.
