Time: 9- 40 minute class periods
Objectives:
Students will learn that pottery has helped to increase understanding of societies, past and present.
Students will learn techniques for making coil method in pottery.
Students learn a variety of ceramic vocabulary terms.
Procedure:
Show a power point example of different types of ceramics that are made out of coils. See images below.
Teacher will demonstrate how to make a coil pot and build up the sides.
Teacher will demonstrate how to use slip and score technique.
Teacher will show an example that she made out of coiled hand built sides.
Students will make their own choices as to the design, shape, patterns, and combinations of coils.
Students will make a sketch for their pottery design.
Students will hand construct and manipulate clay.
Students will learn important vocabulary terms that relates to the ceramic process.
Students will glaze their projects after they have been fired.
