 lesson Plan Describing works of art
 Describe lesson…anticipatory set
 Explain to class that looking at art and describing what you see can lead to personal connections between you and the visual world.

State Standards:
25.B.3 Compare and contrast the elements and principles in two or more art works that share similar themes

Time: 1 – 40 minute class period

Procedure:    
1.Look at above image and ask students to write and then describe what they see.
      
2.Student lead discussions on being an "active part of viewing a painting".
      
3.Write and peer edit metaphor poem based on you descriptive observations of the painting.
                                    or   
Collaboration each table should write a story (short 1 paragraph) that describes what they see in the painting. 


Time: 1 – 40 minute class period

Procedure:

1.Inquiry Students should lead a discussion on the painting below.
 Discussions should be at their own table to compare and contrast paintings. (Student led
discussions).

2. Writing Students should summarize their class experience.

Reading
This lesson can also be taught with the article
“Describing Art”. The article can be copied and included in their weekly
packets. DBQ can be used for marking the text reading
  strategy.
